Man can survive for weeks without food, but only days without water. When you’re out in the wild and you run out of water, you’ll have to find water for yourself. But chances are any water you find will be dirty and cloudy, or infected with bacteria and viruses. If you know how to set up a charcoal or sand filter, and have the equipment you need to build one, you can filter out most of the sediment and quite a few of the bacteria and viruses. But it still won’t be completely potable.
To get fully potable water you’ll either need to boil it or, if you can’t build a fire, use iodine and chlorine to treat your water. Head over to Survivopedia to learn more about how to use iodine and chlorine tablets to purify drinking water.
